I woke around 5 am. Tolan and Jake were still playing, but Derek had fallen asleep. So I yoinked his drum and played in my final drum circle aboard the MV Explorer.
The sun started to rise about a half hour after I woke up. It was a pretty decent sunrise, but the sky was cloudy. It would have been brilliant if it weren’t for those damn clouds.
Once I watched the sun rise I went back to my room to finish packing. It took about two hours, but I got everything packed and delicates were safely padded.
After I packed I went over to see Michael and Marcus. I brought my hard drive and got all the media I needed, meaning I’d gotten all the photos, movies, and signatures I wanted! YESSS!!
Since we had a bit more time before disembarkation, I decided to hang with those two for a while. They are a couple of very funny, good-natured guys. I miss them like woah.
After a little while, Derek came in teary-eyed. Suddenly, the sadness of leaving, which I’d been blocking out for the last week, hit me all at once. I held back the tears, but I sure gave Derek a bear hug. Michael and Marcus soon joined in, allowing the four of us to get our bromance on.
Shortly after our beautiful hug came to a close, seas started to be called for disembarkation. So I got my stuff together and went to the top deck, hoping to say goodbye to as many people as possible. Though I didn’t see everyone I wanted to, I did see the vast majority of my closest friends. Twas a bittersweet time indeed, particularly saying bye to Amy and Tolan.
When the Baltic Sea was called, I gathered my things and left the MV Explorer for the final time (Editor’s Note: OK, fine, I’ll probably be back onboard sometime for an Alumni Voyage, but leave me alone, I’m trying to be dramatic). As I walked off the ship, Dean Laurence shook my hand and told me “You’ll have a good life.” I hope he’s right.
