Day 18 – At Sea

Hi internet. Going to be a short entry tonight, because today was uneventful.

Woke up for breakfast, which was a solid choice. Then Nick and I went back to the room to watch Ricky Gervais’ “The Invention of Lying.” It is a hysterical premise, in which humans simply never learned to lie, so they are always completely and brutally honest. Ricky’s character is the first person to figure out that lying can be advantageous. He uses it to get rich, and then inadvertently creates religion when he soothes his dying mother by telling her that she is going to an eternal paradise where everyone has mansions and sees their loved ones (it’s a blatant Heaven reference). It’s a clever movie with a hilarious take on religion. A must-watch.

Unfortunately, the file was corrupted, so Nick and I instead started HBO’s “In Treatment.” We only watched the first episode, and I’m wild about the fact that episodes are only a half hour. The pilot was very engrossing, a promising start.

Then we had freeing the Human Voice, which was relaxing as always. After a mediocre lunch, Nick and I returned to watch the repaired “Invention of Lying” file. The viewing experience was quite sub-par though, as the audio was off and the end of the movie was missing. But it was still funny, I’ll fo sho have to watch it when I get back.

Then I had painting, where we drew a color wheel. I understand these basic skills are necessary, but I would prefer to learn by trial and error. It’s more fun to paint things than to paint a color wheel.

Next I had an early, first dinner with my extended family, which is actually my Freeing the Human Voice teacher, Diane, her husband Steve, and her three kids: two younger sons and an older daughter. Also in the family are three fellow SASers. Everyone is very nice and the conversation is interesting, I’m definitely glad I signed up.

After dinner I had Dance as a Spiritual Practice, which was amazing as always. I had given Jenny, the teacher, a bunch of songs that I thought would be fun, and she included three of them! It was a blast to dance to some of my favorite music.

After Dance, Tolan and I wrote what appears to be our first completed draft of our premier song, “If I had One Day.” We had had a bunch of jokes, and now it is compiled cohesively. The Open Mic is in three days, I hope it goes well. Anyhow, that’s my day. More tomorrow, as always. Kisses, Maxwell
