Days 28 - 29: At Sea, Sailing from Japan to China

So not too much to report from these last two days. I got so little sleep in Japan that I was severely exhausted. I was very lethargic and had a headache, so I almost never left my bed. I just slept and wrote in my blog.

There were a few hysterical things that have to be mentioned, though. One pleasant surprise of the SAS student body is how few trashy, fratty, douchers there are. There are some, certainly, but I expected way more.

My favorite one on the ship, though, is this guy who always perches a hat on his head at a variety of ridiculous angles. And, of course, he loves them muscle tees. Well yesterday I learned that he is the little brother of “The Situation” from Jersey Shore. It makes so much sense now.

The other hilarious moment came last night at dinner with my extended family. Steve, my extended father, was complimenting Tolan and me for our performance of “If I Had One Day.” Though I won’t mention the specific lyrics because I don’t want to color your viewing experience, I’ll share what Steve told me.

While in Japan, his seven-year-old son asked: “Hey Dad, you remember that song Max did?” “Sure,” Steve replied. “Well you remember that line about stick it in your butt? I thought that was real cool.” Steve then thanked me for introducing his son to anal sex.

It goes without saying that I felt terrible, but I could not help but laugh at the hilarity of the story. Steve then assured me his son had no idea as to what we were joking about; he’s just at that age where he loves any joke involving the word butt.

Okie dokie, well tomorrow we port in Shanghai. We have a single day in Shanghai before my six-day SAS trip. The highlights of that trip include the Great Wall, the Terra Cotta Warriors, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square. And then we have a final day to explore Hong Kong. Alrighty, I gotta do things. I’ve spent way, way, waaay too much time staring at my computer screen the last two days. Talk to you again soon, internet.
